A Rich History
The "Linde-Camp" home was built in the late 1800's by Kelleys Island's Blacksmith, Henry Upp. The Upp's built the home as a hotel, which featured 7 bedrooms and two staircases. In the 1940's, Charles and Florence Lindecamp vacationed on Kelleys, visiting their son and his bride Margery Conkle, a KI native. Charles, a school superintendent in Garfield Heights Ohio, purchased the home in 1950, and fulfilling his wife's dream of operating a restaurant or hotel, opened the doors to overnight guests. For dozens of families, a Summer vacation at the Linde-Camp became tradition.
In 2006, the owner's Great-Granddaughter began a complete renovation. Now, with a few modern amenities for comfort and pleasure, the home still holds all of its historical charms, ready for a new generation of Kelleys Island lovers.
